North America's premier agri biomass technology and process center. Agri biomasses are derived from plants grown annually for agricultural purposes and are typically byproducts from crops grown for food production. Agri biomasses belong in the same "woody cell" family as trees and can replace wood fiber in most applications, providing improvements in product performance and reductions in overall cost.
AgriFi™ and our other technologies are produced to support industry's growing demand for technologies and natural fibers that are more sustainable and that improve product performance over current technologies. With an extensive family history in agriculture and agribusiness, we have one of the largest agri fiber supplier networks in North America and the technical knowledge to support industry's transformation to using annually renewable agricultural fibers as opposed to fossil fuels, wood and other less sustainable natural resources in a growing diverse range of applications.
High value chemical commodities derived from agricultural biomasses. WyoComp's research focuses on identifying optimal process conditions and catalysts capable of maximizing the chemical values extracted from agricultural wastes like wheat straw, corn stalks, and milo stalks and to assess commercial feasibility by performing costing analyses. Findings and research on wheat straw show that high value chemicals such as p-xylene, styrene, phenol and others can be generated cost effectively from this agricultural waste material. WyoComp explores pyrolysis (thermal and catalytic, slow and fast) and conducts research on material handling and feeding systems.
WyoComp uses a proprietary thermal-mechanical process that converts wheat straw into a specialized form of carbons. Silicon-based anode materials used in Lithium-ion batteries ("LIB") technologies use carbons with customized porosity. WyoComp is developing the technologies necessary to convert the bio-carbons into the carbon form needed for use in LIB. Growing demand for LIB is mainly driven by electric vehicles, portable consumer electronics like smart phones, tablets, lap tops and even power tools. Another rapidly growing sector is power grid storage systems.
WyoComp custom harvests small grain crops like wheat, barley, canola, milo and corn with market focuses in central Oklahoma, western Kansas, western Nebraska, Colorado and south-eastern Wyoming. We contract and buy the biomasses (straw and stalks) discharged behind the combines and use them for our polymer fillers, bio-carbon and bio-chemical technologies. Farmers benefit more from WyoComp's ability to harvest the grains and purchase the byproduct biomasses.
WyoComp works with private industry and the public sector conducting a wide range of services, including, but not limited to: polymers and biomass research, biomass studies and feed stock analysis, life-cycle assessments, econometric studies, market studies and analysis and more. WyoComp attends and presents at several industry (domestic and international) conference each year, speaks at colleges/universities, trade groups and associations; all with the goal of promoting WyoComp's overall mission "charting the path to a sustainable future".
